Woomin Kim is a Korean artist currently based in Queens who works primarily with textiles. She has participated in exhibitions and residencies at the Queens Museum, Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Moody Center for the Arts, and Art Omi. Her works have been featured in Hyperallergic, The New York Times, and BOMB Magazine. And now, Woomin can be found strolling the aisles of MFTA’s warehouse looking for inspiration during her residency!
In her projects, Woomin illustrates her own memories and the everyday scenery of Queens and Korea, the two places she calls home. Depicting general stores, market places, living spaces, and street views, Woomin offers new narratives of urban landscapes that feel personal and precious to her. For her residency, Woomin has chosen MFTA’s very own aisles as her muse, replicating all the materials available at our 35,000-square-foot warehouse, one stitch at a time.
